Violent Crime Rate in Minas Gerais, Brazil, Up 20% in 2013

On April 3, 2013, R7 reported that the number of violent crimes in March 2013 was 20% higher than in March 2012.  According to the State Social Defense Ministry (SEDS), authorities reported 7,380 violent crimes, which also represented a 14% rise from February 2013.  This grouping follows seven different types of crimes:  homicides, attempted homicides, kidnappings, robberies, extortion, rapes and attempted rapes.  SEDS also reported that the number of homicides alone is up 12% from March 2012.  Read Article
