The hidden side of life in Colombia’s prison system

kaosenlared.net reported the living conditions of the 111,000 prisoners in the country are described as inhumane by internal and Human Rights defenders. To end this situation, inmates from 21 prisons have begun a hunger strike and peaceful disobedience.

In Colombia, the vast majority of the 142 prisoners who inhabit the country’s prisons live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. According denounce inmates are “under degrading conditions of detention and systematically violate our human rights. We are treated as things and permanently suffer the abuse of power by the state.” Read Article
