Ten People Held Hostage in House in Santa Catarina, Brazil

On April 1, 2013, Diário Catarinense reported that ten people, all of the same family, were held hostage on Easter Sunday by a mentally deranged man in Chapecó, in the western part of the state of Santa Catarina. The man was dealing with issues of estrangement from his wife. The woman was not with the family, who was preparing a barbecue to commemorate the Easter holiday. After being informed, however, she went to the house to help the police to convince the man to let the people go. He admitted that his intention was to kill the woman and their 13 year-old son, then commit suicide.  Read Article
