Tachira, Venezuela: 86 Kilos of Cocaine Seized Shed Light on New Trafficking Routes

From Noticias 24 on August 6, 2013- Members of the Bolivarian National Guard seized 86 kilos of high purity cocaine at the Guarumito checkpoint in the Táchira state. The drugs originated in Colombia and their destination was the central part of Venezuela. Two suspects were apprehended, one Colombian and one Venezuelan. This incident sheds light on new drug trafficking routes in the region according to authorities. New efforts on the border have forced traffickers to find new routes. The Guarumito checkpoint has not been a popular route for drugs in the past, however now, units in this area have been put on alert. Read Article
