Study reveals that 83 percent of Ecuadorians in middle strata economically

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) in a study found that the majority of Ecuador’s population is middle stratum. Research conducted at 9 744 people in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Machala and Ambato found that 83% of Ecuadorians are in the middle tier. While in the upper stratum is 1.9%, and in the low stratum, 14.9%. “This result is a different classification to the classification of poverty or extreme poverty, are two entirely different methodologies,” said Byron Villacis, director of INEC.
