São Paulo, Brazil, Airport Employees Arrested, Accused of Stealing Luggage

On March 5, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that three officials at São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport were arrested on Tuesday and were accused of stealing perfume, jewelry, and other valuables from the luggage of passengers.  Reports state that the employees opened the bags while still in the airplane, out of the sight of security cameras.  Police conducted a two-month investigation into three men – Thiego Rodrigues da Costa, Teriyuki Iwassaki Anderson, and Givanildo dos Santos Cruz – and continue to investigate victims and accomplices.  The local head of airport security and tourist protection said they will also investigate similar reports developing out of former employees.  Read Article
