Sao Paulo, Brazil: 700 kgs of Cocaine Hidden in Truck Transporting Sugar

On July 4, 2013 Globo reported that the Highway Patrol Police in Ituverava, Sao Paulo, confiscated 700 kilograms of cocaine in a truck transporting sugar. The drugs were wrapped in plastic bags and hidden amongst items within the truck. Police report the truck was traveling from Uberaba, Mato Grosso to Porto do Santos, Sao Paulo. The truck driver claims he would have received R$15,000 to transport the drugs. Police are still investigating whether the truck driver and passenger who were both arrested were just transporting the drugs or were involved with its distribution. The investigation continues to prosecute the suspects accordingly. Read Article
