Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, Guatemala: Judge’s Son Among 8 Arrested for Sex Trafficking

On July 17, 2013 Diario de Yucatán Noticias reported that César Barrientos Aguilar, son of the Supreme Court Judge of the same name, was arrested today along with seven other people accused of involvement in a sex trafficking network in Guatemala. The other arrested suspects include one of the group’s customers, a physician identified as Jorge Salazar, along with criminal organization members Edgar Chiquirín, José Marroquín, Carlos Castro, Ana Echeverría, Shirley Sosa and Laura Vásquez.

Barrientos Aguilar is accused of maintaining telephone communication with the network in order to obtain minors for sex. According to the investigation, the group offered children aged between 13 and 17 years to potential customers in the city of Mazatenango, in the southern department of Suchitepéquez. Read Article
