Santa Catarina, Brazil, Registers 74 Attacks in 8 Days

On February 7, 2013, A Notícia reported that in the southern state of Santa Catarina, violence is on the rise. Police have counted 74 incidents in the past eight days, including eight attacks through the night. The most recent, an attack on a band bus in São João Batista (75 kilometers northwest of Florianópolis), left no one injured, but no one was arrested as of today, either. Many of the attacks are either assaults of attempts to set automobiles on fire. Fifteen of the 74 attacks have occurred in Joinville, the largest city, while eleven happened in Florianópolis, the capital.  Read Article
