Salta, Argentina: 64 Female Trafficking Victims Rescued

On August 15, 2013 Emol Noticias reported the rescue of 64 women from a human trafficking network following police raids on several nightclubs in Salta. During the police operation, which took place in various parts of the city, authorities arrested nine suspects including the mayor of Salvador Mazza, Carlos Villalba. Villalba and the other suspects are accused of transporting three girls from Jujuy to Salta where they would later be sent to Chile.

The victims, many of whom are minors, were forced to work in the nightclubs and many of them were forced into prostitution. Meanwhile, their documents were seized to prevent the victims from escaping. Read Article
