Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil: Suspects and companies indicted on charges for issuing false environmental permits

On August 30, 2013 Terra reported that 49 people and seven companies were indicted by the Federal Police for suspicion of fraudulent activity in Rio Grande do Sul. The suspects, accused of issuing false environmental permits, are charged with crimes of money laundering, forgery, and conspiracy among others. Among those arrested included businessman, public servants, and environmental consultants. Police report the most difficult aspect of the investigation (Operation Concutare) was gathering evidence against the corruption. Read Article
