Rio Claro, Brazil: Child Education Program to Prevent Increased Cases of Drug Trafficking

On June 28, 2013, Globo reported that the city of Rio Claro is working to educate children and young adolescents about resisting participating in drug trafficking activity. The Educational Program of Resistance to Drugs and Violence is a result of the increased number of drug trafficking cases, which has tripled over the first five months of this year. Last year, there were 46 cases between January and May, and this year, the number has risen to 130. A spokesman of the Military Police stated a factor involved in the increased number of cases is due to the number of dealers rising. This educational program is the first step to prevention and community awareness in the city. Read Article
