Resistencia, Argentina: 4 Asian Trafficking Victims Rescued

On July 24, 2013 Norte de Corrientes Noticias reported that while checking vehicles for proper documentation at a traffic checkpoint, authorities stopped a suspicious vehicle carrying four Asian women. When questioned, the driver told police that he was taking them from a hotel in downtown Resistencia to the Reconquista-Santa Fe terminal. After requesting the four passengers for documentation, it turned out they were not carrying any and did not speak the local language.
After the Department of Human Trafficking was summoned to the scene, the driver was arrested and the women were transported to a rescue shelter. Authorities also sent for an official translator, in order to determine the nature of the victims’ entrance into the country and whether their situation warrants deportation. Read Article
