Quito leads Guayaquil Ecuador in number of vehicle thefts

Tuseguridad.com reported Quito and Guayaquil are the cities that will not stop car theft. A study by the Faculty Latinomericana of Social Sciences (FLACSO) in 2008 revealed that 58% of complaints was for car theft. The Attorney General’s Office indicated that in 2006, nationally, there were 7904 reports of this crime, while in 2007 there were 9184 reports. In 2008, the incidence, however, was reduced to 6867. Figures of the observatories both Quito and Guayaquil show that between 6 and 7 vehicles are stolen daily in the cities, respectively. From January to June this year, vehicle thefts increased Guayaquil while in the same period of 2011, Quito led the figures. The timetable for the commission of the crime play a role in each city. In Quito this crime is perpetrated in the night while in Guayaquil in broad daylight, which is corroborated by the allegations made in the United States Attorneys. Read Article
