Quetzaltenango, Guatemala: proposition to introduce “Taxi Seguro” meets resistance from drivers

elquetzalteco.com.gt reported that The Guatemalan Tourism Institute (Inguat) intends to implement the government program in Xela, but taxi drivers are unhappy.

Yesterday, at a meeting between officials of the Tourist Assistance Program and the Consulate of Mexico in Quetzaltenango, it was announced that plans to reach Inguat Xela with the “Taxi Seguro” before the show Septembrina. Luis Rolando Mich., program manager of the Tourist Assistance Inguat, explained that “Taxi Seguro”, seeks to provide security to tourists through preventive measures and a record of taxi drivers.
