Prosecutors in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Accuse Policemen in Favela Brutality Case

On October 22, 2013, Agência Brasil reported that state prosecutors in Rio de Janeiro have accused 15 more policemen of involvement in a case in which a stonemason, Amarildo de Souza, was tortured and killed in a favela in Rio de Janeiro in July.  Police are accused of wrapping the body up, then, and taking it to the woods within the Rocinha favela.  Amarildo was originally taken to the precinct to be questioned about a string of drugs and arms that had been recently found in the area.  Of the 25 policemen now facing charges, 17 will face charges of hiding the cadaver, 13 for conspiracy and 4 for procedural fraud.  Read Article
