At the headquarters of the Superintendent of the Federal District, which includes Brasilia and 29 satellite towns surrounding, the architect and superintendent [Administrator] Alfredo Gastal discussed with a group of people their illegal status, dating back more than 40 years ago when they occupied the land where they live. The land ownership, land speculation and sprawl are two sides of the same problem, which translates into an unbearable population pressure on Brasilia, the capital was born 51 years ago in the middle of nowhere, in the heart’s deep interior Brazil.
