Police in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Seek Rape Suspect in New Van Incident

On April 6, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that police in Rio de Janeiro are searching for a man suspected of raping a woman in a van in São Gonçalo, within the Rio Metropolitan Region. The man held her at gunpoint, ordered the vehicle to a deserted location, and sexually abused the woman. This case marks the fourth rape case in Rio de Janeiro in the past two weeks. The other three cases involved a band of suspects who were arrested after assaulting an American tourist on March 30. Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Paes (PMDB) made a new ordinance yesterday that municipal transport vans must now do away with tinted windows, for safety purposes.  Read Article
