Piura, Peru: More Than 8,000 Mototaxistas Move Toward City, Protest

According to RPP.com.pe more than 8,000 mototaxistas protested and blocked streets in Piura today, Thursday August 4th, calling for a meeting with the mayor, Ruby Rodriguez to discuss circulation permits and the use of ‘stops’ for taxi drivers in the city. The group was lead by the president of the Mototaxistas Federation, Julio Farfan and had confrontations with the Peruvian police before entering Piura. Farfan says the protesters calling for the formation of a Joint Commission with representatives of the mototaxistas. Furthermore, more than 200 stations had their permits cancelled, to date, and are awaiting some response from the municipal authorities.Read Articles
