Piura, Peru: 16 Cases of Human Trafficking So Far This Year

On June 24, 2013 Vida Radio Noticias reported that this year in the Judicial District of Piura alone, there have been 16 human trafficking cases reported so far, while last year there was a total of 29 cases. In 2011 the number of reported cases of child trafficking amounted to 39 women and 4 men. The majority of human trafficking cases in the Piura region are for labor and sexual exploitation. The towns of Piura, Sechura, Paita and Talara have been recording the greatest number of trafficking, harboring and exploitation cases. Meanwhile, the provinces of Morropón, Huancabamba and Ayabaca have also experienced an increase in cases.

For this reason, the regional government in Piura recently provided a training workshop for officers involved in cases of human trafficking, as well as to strengthen interagency coordination on this issue. Read Article
