Peru, Piura major staging area for transporting drugs

NOTES: NARCOTRAFFICKING PERU

1. VRAE, Huallaga are considered the drug production region of Peru.
2. 80 percent of illegal drugs exit the country via sea. The Port of Paita is known as a major transportation port for drugs.
3. Aragoto a small town in northern Peru is a legend in Peru in terms of narcotrafficking. Visit the town and you will see block houses, new vehicles and motorcycles. There are a number of stores that carry all types of products and bars. You will also see a number of Colombians and Ecuadorians.
4. Illegal drugs are moved from Aragoto to the frontier with Ecuador where there is little police presence. Drugs are transported by vehicle in most cases. The Zona Huancabamba is also well entrenched in drug movement. Poppies are also known to be transported from Peru to Ecuador.
4. The Sinaloa Cartel is known to control much of this business and is well armed.
