Peru: Government Close to Completing 60% of its Coca Eradication Goal for the 2013

From Tuteve.tv on July 29, 2013- According the chief executive of the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida), Carmen Masias, Peru is close to eradicating 60% of its total coca eradication goal for 2013. Peru hopes to eradicate 22,000 hectares while at the same time increasing public support for development and inclusion in area which have seen eradication efforts. According to Masias, Peru may even surpass its goal this year and eradicate closer to 25,000 hectares due to joint efforts of various public sector entities that have been involved in the issue. President Humala stated that efforts must be accelerated to increase quality of life for the coca farmers, and make agreements with communities that they not replant coca after eradication has taken place.
