Peru: Dutch tourist commits suicide by hanging in hotel in Iquitos

Tourist reportedly arrived in Iquitos to use ayahuasca because he suffered from a disease.

RPP.com.pe reported that the Dutch citizen Johanns Gerardus Nikkenjanp, 53, was found in Room No. 11 at the shelter “Blue Morpho”, hanging from a rope by a cleaning of accommodation, located in the Iquitos-Nauta kilometer 52, in the region Loreto. The incident was reported to police at the station on October 9, who in coordination with the Attorney General, made the removal of the body. A woman cleaning the window observed something strange and upon entering the room, he realized that the citizen had committed suicide, immediately alerting the owner, who told members of the order. Gerardus Johanns arrived Sunday morning in the lodge, in order to try ayahuasca, because apparently suffered a disease. Authorities said Gerardus Nikkenjanp be repatriated to the Netherlands, where his family already know what happened. The police started investigations into the case.
Still unknown the reason for the fatal decision abroad as not leave a suicide note.

In 2012 about 10 foreigners arrived in the Peruvian jungle and committed suicide in various ways, including taking ayahuasca in large proportions. This is the first case so far this year. Read Article
