Paraguay focuses on women’s and indigenous rights at UN conference

In an agreement made yesterday at a United Nations conference in Geneva, Paraguay accepted recommendations to review abortion laws and indigenous rights proposed during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in February, according to abc.com.py. During the most recent UPR, a basic examination of human rights issues that takes place every 4 years, it was suggested Paraguay review its law prohibiting abortion and implement actions focusing on women’s rights. It was also recommended that Paraguay concentrate on indigenous rights, specifically in terms of land and property rights. The government and the Human Rights Coordinating Committee of Paraguay has agreed to take action to reach a higher quality of human rights within the country.
