Over half of food in Ecuador produced by cooperativas

plenglish.com reported that 55 percent of the food consumed in Ecuador at the city level is produced by people who participate in a popular and solidarity economy, the cooperatives, a sector that represents the 26 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
The 71 percent of the economic enterprise of the sector is developed in rural areas, through agriculture, hunting, ranching, and forestry, while other activities, such as manufacturing and tourism, represent a 29 percent. Read Article
