More than 30 seals found dead on north coast of Chile

At least 30 sea lions were found dead on a beach in northern Chile for reasons not yet determined, government sources confirmed today the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca).

The finding of these mammals, which can weigh 250 kilos, occurred last week at the beach of Punta de Choros, about 570 kilometers north of Santiago, in the Coquimbo region, members of the conservation group Sea Shepherd, who subsequently reported the incident to Sernapesca.

Given the exceptional nature of the case, the National Marine Fisheries Service will present the background to the prosecutor to initiate an investigation to clarify the causes of deaths. Read Article
