Montevideo, Uruguay: House of Representatives Approves Legalization of Marijuana

From Publimetro on August 1, 2013- The Uruguayan House of Representatives passed a bill with 96 votes for and 50 votes against, after 14 hours of debate, that moves Uruguay one step closer to becoming the first country to legalize and nationalize marijuana, pending approval by the Senate. The measure comes with little public support, 63% are against it, but it is an attempt to curb drug trafficking and illegal activity related to the drug trade. The law would put the state in complete control of the cultivation, production, distribution, and sale of marijuana. Read Article
