Mexico: Kidnapping Capital of the World, High Risk Areas

Mexico’s National Citizen Observatory (ONC) has published a 166 page document discussing the culture of kidnapping in Mexico. Clearly, this type of crime is a pernicious social issue in Mexico.

HIGH RISK AREAS IN MEXICO FOR KIDNAPPING

CENTRAL MEXICO: Guerrero and Morelos have the largest concentration of kidnappings. The region of central Mexico has the largest number of reported kidnappings. There were close to 700 reports in 2013.

NORTHEAST MEXICO: Kidnapping rate reported is about 2 per 100,000 inhabitants.

HIGH RISK AREAS:
Acapulco, Ciudad Victoria, Cuernavaca, Morelia, Nevo Laredo and Tampico, Tamaulipas
