REPORT FROM SIX US TOURISTS CURRENTLY STRANDED IN CABO SAN LUCAS AND LAPAZ MEXICO

On September 17, 2014, six U.S. tourists vacationing in Cabo del Sol have received no notification from any Mexican or U.S. authorities on what steps to evacuate. They went to a nearby hotel on this date and were told there is no evacuation list. The six heard that the airport in Lapaz had received less damage and decided to make a break for there. Upon arrival at the airport in La Paz they discovered pure bedlam of about 3,000 to 5,000 thousand tourists. They described the airport as chaotic at best except there is electricity, food and water. However, while the military was present, no one seemed to be in charge and everyone is just standing around the airport. They were able to get through on their cellphones in LaPaz to relatives back in the U.S. They asked, “is someone coming for us?” They explained that they had seen no flights leave La Paz today. There appears to be no evacuation or scheduled flights out of La Paz. They indicated that there are no apparent U.S. representatives on the ground in La Paz at the airport.

The six now have returned via taxi to Cabo San Lucas believing that possibly humanitarian flights are leaving. At 3:38 PM Alaska Air has one plan on the ground. It was permitted to land as a humanitarian flight bringing food and water. They are returning to the U.S. with Alaska Air passengers first and other Americans needing to get back to the U.S. Two other flights are scheduled to arrive this date: Flight 233 and 279, both scheduled to return to San Diego and or Los Angeles.
