Medellín, Colombia: Woman Sentenced to 15 years Prison for Human Trafficking

On August 2, 2013 El Espectador Noticias reported that a criminal court in Medellín has sentenced Nidia Castro Torres to 15 and half years prison on charges of sex trafficking. Nidia Castro Torres had been previously sentenced in 2009 for obtaining falsified public documents.
This time, Castro Torres was found guilty of trafficking an 18-year-old girl to China for sexual exploitation. The victim was deceived into traveling to Hong Kong under the pretense she was going to take care of a pregnant woman there. In reality, Castro Torres was sending her there to work as a prostitute. The victim later testified that she was held captive in a house along with two other Colombian women. Read Article
