Liberia, Costa Rica: Police Arrest 5 Suspected Sex Traffickers

On July 11, 2013 La Nación Noticias reported that police in Liberia, Costa Rica have arrested five people and freed 13 alleged victims of trafficking during two raids on the “Sol y Luna” bar, also known as “La Casa Rosada”. During the raids, police arrested the alleged leaders of the trafficking operation, Moya “Roxana” Picado and her boyfriend Bonilla “Alex” Alvarado, along with three workers.

According to a statement from the Attorney General, the criminal organization allegedly captured their victims in San José and Limón. The victims were later held captive in the bar where the traffickers forced the women to have sex with clients during 12-hour daily shifts. Read Article
