Isla de la Plata Ecuador: The Poor Man’s Galapagos

thedailyvoicenews.com.. reported, just off the coast of Puerto Lopez, Ecuador, is Isla de la Plata. This island is better known as the Poor Man’s Galapagos because of the birds that nest there. Even with the construction on the Puerto Lopez malecon (main beach road), there are still daily trips to “La Isla”. In fact, because of the construction, you may be able to get a better deal on the cost of a trip. Plan to spend the whole day and wear good hiking shoes! I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the island!

I met up with my group in the morning at the travel agency, and we all walked along the malecon to the pier. Because of the debris and the changing status of the construction, you may want to ask to meet your group at the pier. Once the new malecon is complete (whenever that might happen), this should be a very pleasant walk. Once at the pier, you will pay your $1 park fee and board your boat and head for the island.
