Investigation in Tocantins, Brazil, Examines R$1 Million in Public-Private “Sweetheart” Deals

On February 22, 2013, Conexão Tocantins reported that an investigation has been launched by the State Attorney General’s office in Tocantins regarding a series of bids granted to a construction company with connections to ex-mayor of Palmas Adjair da Lima.  The company in question is CLS Engenharia Ltda., and authorities are looking into a diversion of at least R$1 million of public money.  Currently state attorneys are looking into irregularities at the state’s Accounting Office to examine transactions and are seeking to open a parliamentary inquiry to question the businessmen involved.  Read Article
