Hidalgo, Mexico: Police Arrest 9 Hondurans and 2 Salvadorans for Human Trafficking

On June 27, 2013 El Hidalgo reported that police in Hidalgo, Mexico have arrested 9 Hondurans and 2 Salvadorans suspected of being linked to human trafficking and migrant smuggling. The group of 11 suspects was allegedly led by a Salvadoran who goes by the alias “El Fantasma.” A Mexican allegedly working with the suspects was also taken into custody. They were arrested while traveling on a train with 7 immigrants from Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras whom the suspects had forced to move to Hidalgo.
According to official figures, more than 140,000 illegal aliens enter Mexico each year trying to enter the United States, many of whom suffer abuse from immigration authorities, as well as kidnapping, extortion, rape and murder at the hands of organized crime networks. Read Article
