Guatemala: Nearly 3,000 murders so far in 2012

Urban violence causes diaros fifteen homicides and nearly 3500 were wounded. NGOs warn that 800 000 illegal weapons circulating in the country.The violence in Guatemala has killed 2,887 people from January to July this year, equivalent to more than 15 homicides a day, said an official source. Of all the murders during that period, 2,403 were the result of armed attacks, says a report from the National Civil Police (PNC), quoted by news agency Prensa Latina.
According to the report, in that period 3,466 other people were injured, 2,285 of them by gunfire. From 1 January to 18 July this year the PNC seized 2,370 guns, machine guns, revolvers, shotguns and assault rifles. Read Article
