Guatemala: 8 Police Murdered Despite the Recent Calm in Drug Violence

From lainformacion.com on June 16, 2013- In recent months, drug traffickers in Guatemala have been considered quiet by some; however extreme examples of violence still occur. Last week, about fifteen men armed with assault rifles and automatic pistols entered a National Civil Police Station in Salcaja and opened fire on the unsuspecting officers. Seven died on the scene, and one died later at the emergency room. There were no arrests and none of the assailants were harmed during the attack. President Molina has stated that the men responsible were one of three groups operating in the southwest of the country, but did not know which one. One investigator believes there are reasons to think that the assassins belong to a group that operates in Santa Ana Huista that sometimes operates with Mexican cartels, however this is not the work of the Zetas.
