Escaped Drug Trafficker Recaptured in Roatan, Honduras

El Heraldo reported on May 18, 2013 that an operation on the island of Roatan, Honduras resulted in the recapture of escaped Honduran drug trafficker, Paco Antúnez Ayala Campbell. Ayala Campbell had been previously arrested in 2007 in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua alongside Mateo Mauricio Ávila, Eduardo Padilla Ballesteros, and Rufino Rubie Vargas. In addition, 1,375 kilos of cocaine were seized during the arrest. However, on November 1, 2007 Ayala Campbell escaped from prison in Nicaragua. Ayala Campbell was placed in the custody of the court and faces charges of drug trafficking, which is punishable by 15-20 years in prison. Read Article
