According to ElComercio.com the Ecuadorian government’s Executive Decree 813, that gives officials the right to “buying” resignations of public servants, became affective on July 12th. Therefore, representatives from state institutions met this past Wednesday, July 13th to establish a position to the modification of the Public Service Law. Authorities at the meeting say representatives will bring a protective action against the new decree and demands before the International Labor Organization. At the meeting, 38 dignitaries decided to declare a permanent session that may stop all activities in their agencies. The outcome will not be known until next Tuesday, when another meeting will be held. A public service worker says the government is favoring short-term contracts for public servants rather than long-term. The Minister of Labor Relations says as of 2007, 4,000 positions have been eliminated and than more will be once workers begin to retire at the age of 70.Read Article
