Ecuador: Prosecutor opens up case in apparent gas poisoning event shrimp packing company

eluniverso.com reported a total of 62 people were treated at Santa Teresita hospitals in the Santa Rosa district, Arenillas hospital, IESS hospital and Teófilo Dávila de Machala. These people would have inhaled some kind of gas while doing their work in a shrimp packing company in Puerto Jelí, canton Santa Rosa, last Friday.

According to the final report of the Ministry of Public Health registered this number of patients, some of them had to spend under medical observation for more than 8 hours and until yesterday were hospitalized in such health homes.

The company where the affected people worked was closed by the Health Commissioner until the type of gas that caused the massive intoxication was established. New inspections are expected by technicians from the Ministry of Health of the Zone 7 tomorrow.
