Ecuador: Police Officer receives honor for turning in 60,000 USD found in backpack

(AFP) An Ecuadoran policeman who found $60,000 in a backpack and handed it in to his bosses received an honor Tuesday from the national police force.

William Alvarez was leaving for work last week when he noticed a strange bag sitting near his doorstep in the port city of Guayaquil.

He thought it might be trash, but when he opened it he discovered a huge stash of $20 bills inside, rolled into bundles and totaling about $60,000.

Suspecting the money was crime-related, he gave it to his superiors — winning their praise for his “high sense of ethics,” which they called an example to his colleagues. Read Article
