Ecuador: Ombudsman warns of risks of chemicals used in banana production

Eluniverso.com reported that the Ombudsman urged the ministries of Health and Agriculture to conduct research on the environmental and physical effects that produce 17 chemicals used in banana plantations (including glyphosate), according to the resolution 010 of the entity . The document was the result of research conducted since 2010, after Jorge Orellana Acosta filed a complaint. Acosta said the alleged existence of abuse by employers, lack of state control and “severe problems of disease to the health of both workers and banana plantations of the nearby town (…) caused by aerial spraying and manual (…) “.
