Ecuador: Officials predict chances of a devastating El Niño are 50 percent

The chances of an El Niño event in the coming weeks affecting the country are now at 50%, a figure that has declined compared to July and August, when there was talk of a 70% chance, according to Eluniverso.com.

“That forecast (…) is the equivalent of having heads or tails in a probability of an event,” said yesterday the head of the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), Maria del Pilar Cornejo, on the premises of Yacht Manta Club, which convened 15 governors and heads of units of risk, to work on a preventive schedule.
