Ecuador: Military assigned to the streets fails to slow crimes committed with arms

A report of the Armed Forces Joint Command said that from January to September last, 15,083 military seized 943 weapons in the country. Army sources said that this is a successful figure, but recognize that they may be parties who say otherwise. Since 2011 the majority of deaths occur at home just with pistols or revolvers, according to the Homicide Survey called up by the Judicial Police (PJ). That year of 2345 murders, 1559 occurred in this way. From January to August 2012, in the country there were 1326 deaths. There were 840 firearms.
