Ecuador: Maternal Mortality Rate Reduced Significantly

cadenagramonte.cu reported Ecuador managed to reduce maternal mortality from 70 per 100 thousand live births in 2011 to 46.6 now, but much is yet to be done, according to a source from the Health Ministry quoted here by local press reports.

Coordinator of the Strategy for a Quick Reduction of the Maternal Mortality Rate, Veronica Vaca, explained that for 2015 the goal is to reach 21.5 per 100 thousand, and the Health Ministry is implementing a series of measures to that purpose.

“As a ministry, we are taking steps and prioritizing the issue of maternal healthat all levels; including hospital, pre-hospital and community health care,” she said in remarks to local news agency Andes. Read Article
