Ecuador: Man dies after being denied emergency medical services for gunshot wound

Guayaquil Ecuador:
Eluniverso.com reported that on Tuesday May 14, 2013 Nicasio Fajorada Tituana died after being denied medical emergency services at three medical facilities for a bullet injury to his head.

He tried to intervene during a robbery of his daughter’s pharmacy in Duran. Fajorada was shot in the head. The family immediately took him to the Social Security hospital in Duran. A relative told Eluniverso.com that they could not treat the victim because there was no oxygen. They then rushed to the Enrique Sotomayor clinic but, were turned away when they were told there was no bed or doctor on duty. Their third stop was at the Clinica Guayaquil, where according to family, were told they had to have a $2000 dollar guarantee and $500 for medicine. They then went to the Luis Vernaza hosptial where a brother of the victim, begged while on his knees a doctor to treat his brother. He was admitted but died the next day. Read Article
