Ecuador detains international roving band of credit card cloners

Ecuador police cracked down an international band comprising four African and three Latin America, dedicated to the cloning of credit cards, said today the Ministry of the Interior. The foreigners were detained in “flagrante delicto” during operations made the day before in the coastal cities of Guayaquil and Quevedo, said the Ministry in a statement. He added that captured some of them “with sufficient proof that would demonstrate his involvement in the cloning of credit cards”.

The portfolio added that this criminal organization operated in different countries such as: Bolivia, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador, where detrimental to citizens and financial institutions. According to the Ministry, the band had special teams, both in software and hardware, for making, die cutting and printing of electronic cards, which were used to purchase and cash. Once ready cards, recruited foreign nationals to make money transactions in cash. “They received 30 percent of the withdrawn amount and to avoid being discovered, is mobilized time from one country to another,” explained the statement.
