Ecuador: Caesarean births up 60 percent in 8 years, possible motivation, financial gain

While you are paid more doctors for a natural delivery that a Caesarean section, doctors promote the latter because they can make more and earn more money.

The Universe. Ecuador has an average rate of 41% of caesarean sections, according to the National Health and Nutrition Survey 2012 published by the INEC. This type of cesarean births increased by about 60% over a period of eight years.

Social protection specialist at the IDB offices in the country shared their experience in seeking information about care options in Quito delivery.
