Ecuador: 70,000 hectares of banana plantations impacted by Black Sigatoka

About 70,000 hectares of banana plantations have been affected by the black sigatoka so far this year. As a result, the supply of fruit for export fell by 25 million boxes according to eluniverso.com.
Gustavo Maroun, president of the Ecuadorian Banana Regional Corporation (Agroban), said farmers fear again next winter affect fruit production and can not prevent contamination in their crops for lack of funds.The problem was discussed yesterday at the first international forum on black sigatoka in Guayaquil.
