Ecuador: 25 People Dead From Altered Alcohol

ElUniverso.com reports the Minister of Public Health announced on Tuesday, July 19th 25 people are dead from drinking altered alcohol, containing methanol in Ecuador. The vice-Minister of Health says the one of the latest deaths occurred in Milagro. He adds that blood tests are being administered to determine the amount of methanol in each person. Officials say the other victim was from Tungurahua province. Additionally officials say 20 alcohol victims were from the Los Rios province, 3 from Tungurahua, and 2 from Guayas. The Ministry is considering whether to extend the “prohibition” period on consumption and sale of alcohol, which ended on Tuesday. Authorities have seized more than 4,500 liters of alcohol and arrested 174 people for illegally selling unregistered alcohol. Officials say they arrested one individual who was selling altered alcohol.Read Article
