A military plane crashed in Pastaza Province today. President Correa said all 22 people on board were killed. 19 of the victims were paratroopers. There were also two pilots and a mechanic. The plane crashed near Hacienda La Palmira in the Fátima area. It had taken off from the town of Shell just before 13:00 for a parachute drop. But minutes after take-off, the pilot asked to return because of bad weather.
